Sophomore Internship Program

What is SIP?

Each semester, SIP has a cohort of over 20 students at 10–20 different internship sites. We’ve had students from a variety of different majors. Interns are required to complete program objectives, such as written reflections, site visits, and an e-Portfolio, to enhance their internship experience.

Through your work at the internship site and our program’s initiatives, you will:

  • Discover your professional identity
  • Manage internship and personal goals to decide what you want to do next and how you can achieve this
  • Connect your academic coursework to your professional experience in SIP
  • Articulate your internship experience in preparation for future interviews and networking

Many interns have the opportunity to stay at their site as a part-time job until graduation. Even if you decide to move on from your site, you'll be equipped with the skills necessary to pursue exciting opportunities.

Program requirements

Fostering your growth is our mission at SIP. As part of our program, interns are required to complete activities throughout the semester to encourage their reflection and learning.

As an intern, you're expected to:

  • Set meaningful short-term and long-term goals and connect to your experience and your desired future
  • Meet with the SIP program coordinator and your site supervisor to discuss your growth
  • Complete periodic reflections to review your learning and identify areas for further growth
  • Develop an online portfolio of your internship experience, including your goals, your role, and reflections to learn how to articulate your internship for future opportunities
  • Showcase your learning in April at the Engaged Learning Showcase (optional for the fall cohort; required for the spring cohort)

The Sophomore Internship Program application is closed for fall 2024. The application for spring 2025 will be available in October 2024.
